sometimes you win, sometimes you loose

It's ok Daddy, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.

That's what my daughter told me this evening after I shared the news that I lost a design bid. I feel bad for several reasons. Business is, of course, primary.

Second reason I feel bad is that the winning bidder has an unscrupulous reputation of partnering with contractors. They will most probably donate the design service but get their fees from the winning contractors. There's no civil law against that. It's all a matter of conscience.

That's what the architect's code dictate. It's all a matter of personal interpretation of what's right or wrong. I always design / make design decisions based on what I believe is right or wrong. Maybe that's not the way to go. It's probably a bad business decision; having my own professional decisions lie between a contract and a job I can comfortably sleep on.

I have a daughter to told me the meaning of bidding. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. She's right. Zoe and her 6 year old mind told me what bidding is all about.
